How it all began

Catoctin Colorfest began in 1963 with what started as a nature walk but quickly evolved into a juried arts and crafts festival featuring 300 well-known and respected artisans from across the United States. Located in the Community Park in Thurmont, Maryland, Catoctin Colorfest has been recognized in Sunshine Artists Magazine, ranked in the top 35 festivals in the US, and is one of the largest on the East Coast. In addition to the wide selection of beautiful handcrafted items, an array of delicious, local food is also available to satisfy every appetite.

The atmosphere of the quaint town of Thurmont, Maryland, located at the base of the beautiful Catoctin Mountains in Frederick County, Maryland, changes every year during the second weekend of October when the festivities of the annual Catoctin Colorfest take place. While the activities of Catoctin Colorfest are confined to the Community Park, the whole town gets in on the fun.

The hours of operation in the Community Park are 9 AM to 5 PM Saturday and Sunday with breakfast available from various food vendors starting at 7 AM.

Demonstrations by various artisans take place throughout the weekend, including broom making, wood turnings, and wood carvings of flowers.

There is a shuttle bus service available throughout the day from 8 AM to 6 PM. Admission is free to Colorfest, but a nominal fee is charged at the parking locations throughout the town.
